Are you planning to donate blood for the first time? It is normal to feel a bit nervous! Proper preparation can make your experience smooth and rewarding.
1. Drink Plenty of Water
Hydration is key. Drink extra water and fluids (non-alcoholic) in the days leading up to your donation, especially right before.
2. Eat Iron-Rich Foods
In the weeks before your donation, eat a healthy diet rich in iron. Spinach, red meat, beans, and iron-fortified cereals are excellent choices.
3. Get a Good Night's Sleep
Make sure you sleep well the night before your donation. Being well-rested helps prevent dizziness.
4. Eat a Healthy Meal Before Donating
Never donate on an empty stomach. Eat a balanced meal a few hours before donating, avoiding very fatty foods as they can affect blood testing.
5. Bring Your ID
Don't forget to bring your National ID card, Passport, or valid identification.
During and After
During the donation, relax, listen to music, or talk to the staff. Afterwards, eat the provided snacks, drink plenty of fluids, and avoid heavy lifting or strenuous exercise for the rest of the day.
